  • Google ignores meta description


  • If you thought that Google will just pop the meta description right into your search snippet, think again. So, how does the snippet description really work?


  • There has been numerous articles on the web aboud where the search snippet come from. It appears that meta description is only used when it correlates closely with the title of the page and the url for the page.

    For example, we use to have the following for our home page:

    • title: Modern Software & Application Cloud for Businesses
    • description: Attract, convert and close customers easier, faster and cheaper. Improve organizational efficiency to cut costs. Transform your business with hundreds of customizable applications.

    And google's search result looked like this:

    Modern Software & Application Cloud for Businesses

    https://izyware.com/

    LEGAL Á· LOGIN. Izyware Inc(c) 2011-2016 ....

    The 2nd item for blogs looked better:

    Izyware Blog | Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success Content

    https://izyware.com/blog

    Jan 9, 2018 - Blog for sales, marketing, and customer success. We have hundreds of thousands of subscribers and attracts millions of online visitors.

    It turns out that the content of the description needs to correlate well with the title and the url. Our issues were:

    • The title did not have the domain keywork in: i.e. Izyware | ...
    • The description did not have the domain and our business name in it: i.e. Izyware is a modern software & application ...

    Also, we did not have the following meta tags:
