  • Picking a registrar Part III - Simplify Domain And Brand Management


  • In the third part of the series we will talk about how to manage and simplify common maintenance tasks related to owning a branded domain online. IzyCloud offers full service brand management solutions that will automate the usual maintenance tasks associated with your domain.


  • Introduction

    IzyDomains will allow you to manage and automate all domain related maintance tasks via your free IzyCloud email address. The IzyCloud system will automatically process the domain related communications for you.

    In addition to providing Free SSL cerficiates, Free auto-scaling, etc. (which you will typically be charged for) the service will provide an anonymous point of contact that should simplify domain transfers, DNS changes, etc.

    Domain Ownership Issues

    A very common complaint that we have heard from brand managers is about the pain associated with ownership changes for the domain registrations. A typical organization will designate one employee or a contractor as the point of contact for domain and hosting related issues.

    Below are the most common issues that we have seen.

    Using a brand email address as the credentials for the hosting service

    This setup is not recommended because the email address associated with the hosting service will be dependent on the service that manages it.

    We recommend that you your IzyCloud email as the point of contact. Not only this will solve the dependency problem but it will also allow you to automate tasks based on the email communications with the registrar. For example the domain registry system could use this mail box to send authotization codes in case you need to recover your credentials.

    In addition, the IzyCloud emails have multi factor authentication which provides and additional layer of protection and security.

    Your IzyMail address will have the following format:

    customerid.orgid.accountid@izyware.com

    Your IzyMail address is available in the Account Settings section of your IzyCloud dashboard.

    The person managing the domain is not around anymore

    Another common complaint that we hear often is that organizations get locked out of their registrar service.

    Contacting the Person That has access to the registrar service
    The easier approach is to use a WhoIS service to get Admin Contact for the domain. This may or may not work. For example, if the registrant is using a anonymizer service the info will not be shown.

    Also you may find the contact info for the person but they may not be cooperating or responding to your requests.

    If this approach fails, you are out of luck and would need to go through a dispute resolution process.

    ICANN Dispute Resolution
    Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Resolution Policy has been adopted by ICANN-accredited registrars. This is typically used in cases involving domain squatting which is registering, trafficking in, or using an Internet domain name with bad faith intent to profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to someone else. The cybersquatter then offers to sell the domain to the person or company who owns a trademark contained within the name at an inflated price.

    Dispute proceedings arising from alleged abusive registrations of domain names (for example, cybersquatting) may be initiated by a holder of trademark rights. The UDRP is a policy between a registrar and its customer and is included in registration agreements for all ICANN-accredited registrars.
